Plastic Surgeon in Newport Beach on Latest ASAPS Statistics
Orange County plastic surgeon Dr. Semira Bayati says that breast augmentation in Newport Beach was the most popular surgical procedure at her practice, a majority reflected by the latest study from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Dr. Bayati, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Newport Beach, discusses the growth in popularity of this procedure at her practice and the possible influences of the overall increase in cosmetic procedures.
According to the latest ASAPS statistics, demand for cosmetic surgical procedures increased by 9% to over 1.6 million procedures performed in 2010. With breast augmentation as the most popular, other top procedures included in the recent study were liposuction, eyelid surgery, and tummy tuck. Dr. Semira Bayati says that at her Newport Beach plastic surgery practice, she saw a similar rise in the popularity of breast augmentation and overall cosmetic enhancements. She adds that the overall increase in surgical and cosmetic procedures reflects an increase in the approval rating of cosmetic enhancement in the US.
Despite a slight decline in minimally-invasive cosmetic enhancements in 2010, the increase in surgical procedures suggests that there will be a continued rise in overall cosmetic procedures, says Dr. Bayati. Since the economy has begun to show positive signs of recovery, Dr. Bayati says that many people are beginning to look for cosmetic procedures again, either to enhance the way they look and feel about themselves or to assist their job hunt in a competitive market that prizes looking young. Along with the swell in breast augmentation and cosmetic procedures overall, an ASAPS survey reported a 3% increase in cosmetic plastic surgery approval, bringing the total to 51% of all Americans saying they approve of cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Bayati says that regardless of the procedure, she hopes to provide the same quality care to her patients throughout. However, as cosmetic enhancement is increasingly accepted, breast augmentation will continue to be one of the most popular choices. “Breast augmentation offers a reasonably affordable procedure for even the young patients, and makes women feel more confident about their bodies. It is also a relatively easy surgery to recover from. Now, we have so many shapes and styles of implants, that as a surgeon, it is very nice to be able to customize the right implant for each body and breast type, so that we can provide a range of looks that vary from very natural and proportionate, to very sexy and voluptuous. The days of using just one type of implant for every patient are over.”

Dr. Semira Bayati attended Boston University School of Medicine directly out of high school, one of only 45 students in the country with such a distinction, and graduated with honors.
