What is a Revision Breast Augmentation?
Breast implants can be permanently removed or exchanged for a different size, shape, type, or implant model.
Upgrading to a new breast implant, the desire to return to the original breast size, dissatisfaction with the initial breast augmentation’s outcome, the need to address a complication that has arisen, and concerns about Breast Implant Illness (BII) are some of the most common reasons women undergo revision breast augmentation surgery.
A revision breast augmentation procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis. Most patients will not require an overnight hospital stay.
In many cases, the incisions necessary for a revision breast augmentation can be made in the same location as the initial breast augmentation, depending on certain factors. If this is possible, there should be little to no additional scarring beyond the scars already in the treatment area.
Patients should plan for at least one week of recovery at home before resuming normal daily activities following revision breast augmentation surgery. Bruising and swelling are common side effects and should fade as the breasts heal.
